Build a Las Vegas Cactus Garden
If you want a beautiful garden that is easy to maintain, then consider planting a low-maintenance cactus garden. Once established, they are easy to maintain. You can choose from a vast variety of cactus as they thrive naturally in the Nevada climate.
Choose a Location
There are probably many places in your landscape where you can plant a garden. The most important factor is to make sure that the area drains well because otherwise, the cactus roots will rot. Once you decide on the location, any existing plants and turf will need to be removed. Cactus do best in a mixture of three parts potting soil, one part perlite and one part sand as this allows the soil to drain quickly.
Decide on Your Cactus
Just as with other types of gardens, it is important to consider the type of cactus that you want to grow in your garden. Many people choose to grow a tall cactus such as the cardon grande or the saguaro as a focal point. Then, add medium and small cactus to your garden. A mixture of different textures can add interest to your garden. Additionally, think about adding cactus that blooms at different times adding even more visual interest. Remember that many cacti spread rapidly, so make sure that you give them plenty of room to grow.
Fertilize
About the only care that a cactus garden requires is to be fertilized once in the spring. The fertilizer should be higher in phosphorus than nitrogen, and it should be extremely weak so that it does not burn the cactus’ roots.
