Tips for Designing a Path With Stepping-Stones

There are a lot of possibilities for pathway design. From the type of stone or paver to the size and placement there are many styles of Las Vegas backyard landscaping stone pathways available. You also need to consider what will go between the stepping-stones. Will it be grass, gravel or soil? Here are three ideas for designing garden pathways.

Grass, Moss and Ground Cover

By definition, a stepping-stone pathway has spaces to fill between the stones. You have a few options from which to choose, so first decide the look you want. Should it look like a natural path through the forest? In that case, moss and low ground cover plants are good or maybe grass.

If you want a more sophisticated appearance, you may put colored gravel between the stones for a more modern effect. In that case, you will need to keep the weeds away.

Add Curves and Corners

If your yard is big enough it adds interest to design a path with a few curves and even a corner or two. Even if it’s small, you can add one curve. This attracts the eye to different areas of the garden.

Use Different Types of Stepping-Stones

Another popular way to add interest is to use different types of stones. Whether your path is short or long you can create an arrangement with the types of stones you use. Bricks, natural stone, fabricated pavers that come in a variety of colors and even wood can be used. This type of design can also look like a natural hiking trail or a well-planned pattern.

Walkway Edging and Maintenance

For any pathway, weeds are an issue. You can define the path with landscape fabric on either side to block weeds from entering the gravel or joining the moss. It may not block all the weeds, but it will help reduce the amount of work it takes to remove them.
